There are many changes in the JAI classroom volunteering experience for the 20/21 school year as schools implement all necessary public health policies and procedures. You will be invited to join the class by video link (and not visit the classroom as you would have done previously). The teacher, who will support your delivery may be wearing a face mask, as will all students at second level and the class may be sitting apart from each other to allow for social distancing.
The important elements of your volunteering will remain the same. Your materials are carefully designed to support the learning objectives in the formal school curriculum and to engage and encourage student learning and participation. You are a positive role model for the students you will work with and they will gain great insights into the world of work through their time with you. They will also be encouraged to see a link between what they learn in the classroom and the working world and become better prepared for their post school lives.
